David Sands, professor, Montana State University, received a Charles Lindberg Award and two Bill and Melinda Gates GCE awards (2013 Biological control of Striga in Kenya and 2018 Plasmid Curing in Calf Scours in Brazil). He founded the Biotechnology curriculum at Montana State University, was PI of a USAID Project involving barley genetics and pathology in 11 countries, and was the leader in USDA biocontrol projects. He is a PI on a current NSF-RAINS grant. Sands was instrumental in reporting the observation of ice-nucleating bacteria and their possible role in precipitation (Bioprecipitation). He has developed nutritional crops for food-related diseases.
