Filip VangeelManager Circular Economy at Valipac
Filip Vangeel graduated in 1992 as a chemical engineer (MSc). After serving as a non-commissioned officer in the Belgian Army, he joined Procter and Gamble in 1994 as a packaging technologist. Over the years, Filip Vangeel gained a deep insight into the development of new packaging that was marketed worldwide. He received several patents for these innovations. In 2018, Filip Vangeel ended his career at Procter and Gamble as a senior scientist and started a new one at Valipac. As manager of circular economy, Filip Vangeel is now responsible for implementing strategic projects with partners from the value chain and guides Belgian companies in their transition to a circular economic model.
Valipac was created in 1997 by the Belgian industry to provide a common response to the extended producer responsibility for commercial packaging waste. Since its establishment, Valipac has been instrumental in raising recycling rates from an initial 74% to almost 90% today. It is through our participative model that we are able to present these good figures. Valipac's model is based on dialogue between the various stakeholders: professional federations, national and regional authorities and employers' organizations are part of our decision-making bodies.
