Johannes Paul is environmental engineer with vast professional experience in waste management and circular economy. Since 1988, he has worked for various public, private sector and academic institutions in Germany, EU, Canada, Philippines, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and India. Currently, Dr. Paul advises German Ministries - on behalf of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) - on waste management, climate mitigation and marine litter issues in low-income countries. Previously he led numerous research and development projects in Asia for 17 years and is known for his contributions and innovative approach to integrate the informal waste sector. Dr. Paul (co-)authored over 100 publications, has lectured at several universities and regularly attends high-level conferences related to his professional assignments.
