Sorin Dumitru currently serves as the Deputy General Manager of Eco-Rom Ambalaje, the first EPR scheme for packaging and packaging waste management established in Romania in 2003 by the obliged industry. Sorin joined Eco-Rom Ambalaje in 2014 as Project Manager in charge of a special research and development project aiming to determine the contribution of the producers and importers of packaged products introduced on the national market, in a full net cost scenario applicable to the municipal waste flow, which was eventually regulated and implemented by the central authority for environmental protection as of 2019.
Meanwhile, Sorin also served as Director of Development and successfully represented Eco-Rom in national and international associations, contributing to the transposition of the Circular Economy Package into the national legislation, especially in relation to the Romanian Ministry of Environment and advisory/reporting commissions within the lower and upper chambers of the Romanian Parliament.
Sorin holds a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of Bucharest (1991) and a postgraduate degree in International Law and Relations from the University of Bucharest (1998). He is currently studying in a MS program focused on Environmental Engineering and Sustainable Energy within the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Environmental Protection of the Technical University „Gheorghe Asachi” in Iasi, Romania
