Jacob Westin joined Shire (now part of Takeda) in 2016 as its Stockholm-based Lead Counsel for the Nordic-Baltic region as well as co-chairing its competition law centre of excellence and in that capacity involved in the global antitrust filings for the Takeda combination. He joined Shire from GSK where he was a London-based Assistant General Counsel responsible for all EU competition law matters (including the CMA Paroxetine patent settlement case) and competition law compliance. A Swedish national, he started his career with the Swedish Competition Authority, where he served with various departments including its legal service for four years before joining Baker & McKenzie in Stockholm to practise competition law. Jacob earned his Swedish law degree at Uppsala University and an LL.M. in European Law at the University of Essex. He has taught competition law at Swedish universities and written several books and articles on the subject. His most recent competition law handbook was published in December 2016.
