Uwe Fiedler is the Chief Privacy Officer of PAREXEL International Corporation, a leading global bio/pharmaceutical services organization (Clinical Research Organization). Based in Berlin, Germany and Waltham, USA, he works with cross-functional teams to advance PAREXEL’s privacy principles and culture of respect for privacy by guiding also the development of products and features in the fields of clinical research that enhance user privacy and ensuring compliance with privacy laws around the world.
Prior to joining PAREXEL, Uwe served as the Corporate Privacy Officer at Schering AG, a German based pharmaceutical company. In this position, Uwe implemented the first Binding Corporate Rules for a pharmaceutical company. He was also involved in the design and implementation of a data processing infrastructure concept for the secure pseudonym storage and keeping of blood and tissue samples intended for genetic analyses (GENOMatch) that was successfully audited in a formal procedure by the Independent Centre for Privacy Protection (ULD – Schleswig Holstein, Germany) and that was awarded with an audit label. As the Director for Quality Assurance and IT Security at Quasi Niere gGmbH, Uwe implemented the first pseudonymization systems in quality assurance in kidney transplant therapy in the German health care system. The data protection concept required the implementation of a trusted third party in the office of a notary, the use of a patient and health professional smartcards and the storage of pseudonymized (coded) data in the national registry for quality assurance purposes. Uwe studied Law and Computer Science in Munich, Konstanz and Wellington (NZ) and graduated from University of Konstanz with a degree in law. He received various Information Security, Privacy and Risk Management certifications and was recognized as Privacy by Design Ambassador by the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario (IPC). Uwe is elected chair of the Association of Clinical Research Organizations (ACRO) Global Data Protection and Privacy Committee and is a frequent speaker at leading industry and business events around the world, presenting on topics such as Privacy, Clinical Research, Information Security and Risk Management.
