Matthias Schneider is Chief Risk Officer for the life business of the Zurich Group in Germany.

He closely accompanied and helped to shape the transformation in the company from the previous Solvency I regime to the new Solvency II regime. Among other things, he worked in this area at ING Life in Japan, where he was responsible for the risk management of variable annuity products. Later in his career he was responsible for covering Zurich Insurance risk management practices for life business in the Swiss head office. Since 2016 he has been responsible for the risk management of Zurich Deutscher Herold Lebensversicherungsgesellschaft AG as part of Solvency II. Main focus of the life business and risks to be managed are guarantees, unit-linked and biometric product lines. In 2022 he also took over ad-interim the overall CRO role for Zurich Gruppe Deutschland.

Recently he has published a book “Grundzüge des Versicherungsaufsichtsrechts” (foundations of supervisory law) which explains the Solvency II framework as a practitioner. He has participated in the IFoA working for Diabetes, which has the objective to publish a dedicated paper on “An Analysis of Diabetes Mortality and Morbidity Risk”
