Karsten is Adviser in the Internal Models Division within the Directorate On-Site & Internal Model Inspections of the European Central Bank (ECB) in Frankfurt.
Main areas of his work cover the assessment of market risk models and the design and implementation of new regulatory requirements. He co-chairs the Market Risk Network of the Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM). Karsten is member of the Market Risk Group of the Basel Committee, where he co-chairs the internal models work stream and is involved in other working groups at European and Basel level.
Before joining the ECB in 2014 Karsten worked for more than 15 years in the
German Central Bank, first as an examiner and then more than 10 years as head of section responsible for on-site inspections and the transposition of Basel and European rules into national legislation. Karsten holds a diploma in Mathematics from the University of Marburg.
