Profile

Prior to joining Control Risks Wanda served as a law enforcement officer for 19 years and as a security and investigations consultant for the United Nations and several non-government organisations (NGOs), and was the Learning and Development and Logistics Manager for a private security firm in Kenya.

Wanda has delivered security-related training to law enforcement agencies around the world, multiple international NGOs, the United Nations and numerous private organisations. Based in Kenya for five years, Wanda was a United Nations hostile-environment training consultant, conducting mandatory training for UN staff prior to their deployment to Somalia. She also conducted investigations on behalf of the United Nations and various NGOs into allegations of harassment, sexual harassment and sexual assault.

As a law enforcement officer Wanda served with the Queensland Police Service in Australia where she led a regional team of hostage and crisis negotiators. In that capacity she responded to and managed hundreds of crisis interventions including hostage/barricade situations, suicide intervention and domestic and international kidnapping. She also managed a large police division, was a firearms and operational skills instructor and previously served on the Public Safety Response Team (Public Order).

Wanda has extensive operational experience is dealing with colleagues having undergone trauma in their work environment; assisting them to return to work and identifying triggers and symptoms in others. She has delivered stress management workshops to staff preparing for travel to and from Somalia and other hostile environments.
