Just in time arrival through real time data exchange between ship and shore

Proof of concept by Wärtsilä, HVCC, Carnival Maritime, and Bureau Veritas

The concept is based on coordinating ports, terminals and vessel operations through real-time data exchange between the carrier’s fleet operating center, the vessel bridge and operational coordination centers such as HVCC. Information flows seamlessly through the vessel navigation system, allowing an unprecedented communication efficiency as well as dynamic speed optimization for just-in-time arrival.

What are the benefits?

The Just-in-time arrival concept implemented and tested in the Port of Hamburg is part of the Smart Marine Ecosystem approach, which envisages eliminating waste in shipping through transparency and collaboration, resulting in a dynamically optimized port approach and terminal berthing.

Project partners will present at Smart Ports Summit the technical concept, processes and results for the first time.

Key areas of focus

Automation. Digitalisation. Supply chain optimisation.

Maintaining a competitive advantage in a fast-pace digital environment remains one of the biggest challenges facing ports and terminal operators today. Which trends are set to shape the future?

Supply chain collaboration

The advert of the Fourth Industrial Revolution has arrived and has brought with it new technical requirements for businesses. Our event will look at which new business models ports will need to implement and how quickly new operative models will be able to unlock additional revenue.

Smart port ecosystem

The relationship between authorities, the private sector and ports plays a huge role in creating a sustainable approach for a brighter industry. Which of these figures are taking the lead through digital transformation? Find out which port and terminals are innovating, what stage they are in the process and what equipment is required from suppliers to meet developing port services.

The wake of 5G & cyber security

Transmitting data safely in milliseconds, optimizing operations, improving performance… 5G is posed to improve connectivity and transparency to a new level. Nevertheless users who opt into a this network upgrade will also need to prepare for new cybersecurity threats. Find out what software port authorities and terminal operators are using to ensure they are protected from cyber attacks.

The new wave of start-ups

New disruptors are entering the industry. Small, innovative companies are offering solutions which are making port operations more efficient and cost effective. Which new start ups are transforms port business models for the better?

d for data

Who owns it? Is it relevant? How mature is it? These and other questions around data sharing and best practices will be answered to help stakeholders become more transparent whilst maintaining their competitive edge.

Breaking down silos

The benefits of port automation are clear; it will introduce a whole new level of consistency in cargo handling, cutting costs and helping the environment. Attend and explore the opportunities around data flow for automated terminals.
