Alexandra Ekpiken
Partner, COO & Head of Investor Relations at Baylis Emerging Markets

Baylis Emerging Markets ("Baylis") is an African led frontier markets focused investment manager, with a gender balanced leadership team, currently raising a $100 - $150m AUM maiden growth equity fund. Baylis seeks to create outsized financial returns in tandem with generating impact through improving environmental standards and creating or maintaining sustainable jobs, thus reducing migration and brain drain out of Africa. Baylis and its activities have succeeded in securing support from leading American business leaders and noted investors such as Michael Novogratz and Richard Parsons. Baylis’ commitment to driving investments of global capital into African markets was recognized in the recent appointment of its Managing Partner as a member of the US President’s Advisory Council on Doing Business in Africa. Baylis currently has offices in Lagos, Nigeria and New York City.

Alexandra is a Partner & COO at Baylis Emerging Markets and has over 15+ years’ experience advising clients in the asset management industry, representing global institutional investors such as Goldman Sachs Capital Partners. More recently, Alex spent almost 8 years in West Africa as Vice President at an award-winning Africa focused PE fund, Verod Capital Management, where she was project manager for Verod’s two fundraising campaigns, the last of which closed oversubscribed during a challenging period of fundraising in Africa.

Alex began her career on Wall Street and the City of London advising major domestic and global investment firms and advisers on structuring and executing big-ticket M&A and Private Equity transactions. She was seconded by the UK government to the European Commission's Merger Task Force as a 'UK M&A National Expert’ and represented the UK on the high-level Advisory Committee on Concentration panels at the European Commission in Brussels.

Alex holds an MBA from Columbia Business School, and an LLM Master of Laws from Harvard Law School and is an International Fellow of the American Association of University Women. She is a Board Director of Columbia Business School Women in Business Circle, President of the Advisory Council to the Alumnae-i Network for Harvard Women and on the Impact Committee of Black Women in Asset Management.
