Martin Ewald
Lead Portfolio Manager, Impact Investments at Allianz Global Investors GmbH


Martin Ewald is a Managing Director in the London office of Allianz Global Investors and heads the Impact Investment team as Lead Portfolio Manager.

In this function, and together with his dedicated team, he successfully structured and launched the Allianz Impact Investment Fund, the first Impact fund of Allianz Global Investors.

In addition, Martin and his team were mandated by Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW) on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Cooperation and Development  in 2019 to set up and manage the AfricaGrow Fund, a blended fund-of-funds equity vehicle which invests into African Private Equity and Venture Capital funds targeting social impact on the ground. The Fund is the first German Impact Fund of it’s kind and is a joint effort between KfW,  Deutsche Entwicklungsgesellschaft and Allianz.

Before becoming Head of the Impact Investment Team, he was instrumental in setting up the Infrastructure Equity strategy of AllianzGI from 2012 on targeting Renewable Energy asset investments in Europe and co-headed the portfolio management business for renewable energies in Munich. Since 2013, he took on responsibility for the overall investment strategy of the team. Before, he worked for Allianz SE as Co-Head of the Investment team of Allianz Climate Solutions since 2007 where he covered transactions in the fields of renewable energies and impact investments worldwide and consequently has been working in the Impact space his whole career.
