Clare CopelandManaging Director, Tax at The Carlyle Group
Clare Copeland is Managing Director of Tax at the Carlyle Group based in the London office. In her role Clare leads the International Tax affairs of the Group and is responsible for International Tax strategy, Planning and Governance across all asset management and fund platforms. Clare is a Chartered Tax Adviser, a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants England and Wales and has over 24 years of experience in the Asset Management space.
Prior to joining Carlyle, Clare spent 12 years at American Capital where she was Senior Vice President, Head of Tax & Structuring Europe. There, she advised on general International Tax Planning and M&A transactions across a wide range of industries. She was also lead for the structural aspects of the group’s fundraising efforts and associated carry planning across the European region. Prior to this, Clare spent 8 years with KPMG based in their Private Equity Tax Group in London, where she advised a range of private equity funds on the tax aspects of pan European transactions and operations.
Clare has seats on a number industry groups and associations, most notably she chairs the Corporate Tax Sub-Committee of the British Venture Capital and Private Equity association (BVCA), is chair of Invest Europe's International Tax & Tax Reporting Working Group, is a member of the Alternative Credit Council Tax Committee and sits on Invest Europe’s Global Private Equity Council.
