John AndersonHead of Corporate Finance & Infrastructure at Manulife
John Anderson is a 25+ year investor in infrastructure assets and companies. As the leader of Corporate Finance at Manulife, he leads US, Canadian, and Hong Kong investment teams in the origination, analysis, and management of € 100 billion of investments in private equity, private placement debt and public bonds to support the Manulife’s life insurance businesses in Canada, the US, and East Asia. Infrastructure debt and infrastructure equity are roughly a quarter of his portfolio.
John joined Manulife’s Boston infrastructure team as an investing officer in 2001, and led that group with style and flair from 2004 – 2010, during which time he grew the overall portfolio from US$ 10 billion to US$ 17 billion of debt and equity investments, and dramatically increased the scope and scale of the infrastructure equity program. Since then moving to a broader role leading all of Manulife’s corporate finance investing teams for their life insurance companies, John has continued as the principal approving officer for the firm’s infrastructure equity, corporate buyout, and midstream equity investment programs. John also sits on Manulife’s global investment committee.
Prior to joining Manulife in 2001, John worked like an animal for ten years in the New York and London offices of JP Morgan Chase, where he led teams that advised on or arranged more than US$ 8 billion in bank and bond market financing in the power and energy industries. This work included substantial infrastructure finance work, in both developed (US, France, Germany) and developing (Croatia, Turkey, Colombia, Russia) economies.
John holds an MBA from Georgetown University and received his BA in Economics from The University of Chicago. He speaks French, Serbo-Croatian, German, Spanish, and Russian at an intermediate level, and would not be confused for a native speaker in any of these languages.
