Paolo Simonato, Managing Director, is a senior member of the investment team and head of the London office for BlackRock Private Equity Partners (PEP) within BlackRock Alternatives Investors (BAI). He has primary responsibility for the sourcing, diligence and monitoring of direct co-investments and private equity funds with leading private equity firms across Europe.
Mr. Simonato joined Blackrock in 2018 with over 20 years of relevant experience and a global career in private equity, leverage finance and industrial M&A . Prior to Blackrock, he was Chief Strategy Officer and member of the executive and credit committees at GE Corporate Finance Bank, the leverage finance unit of GE Capital in Europe. From 2000 to 2012, Mr. Simonato was a Managing Director and private equity portfolio manager with GE Asset Management where he managed regional investment teams focused on direct investments, co-investments and primary fund commitments in Europe and Latin America. From 1997 to 2000, Paolo worked in GE's industrial M&A team leading Oil & Gas acquisitions and industrial divestitures in Europe. Prior to that he was a US-based auditor and corporate audit manager with General Electric from 1994 covering global assignments in US, Europe and Asia.
Mr. Simonato is a graduate of Bocconi University (cum laude) and holds an independent director certification from INSEAD (IDP-C). He has held executive and non-executive director positions in financial services and industrial companies in Europe, US and Latin America.
