George Pyne
Founder & CEO at Bruin Sports Capital

George Pyne is CEO of Bruin Sports Capital which he founded in January 2015. Bruin specializes in developing high-growth, high-yield global businesses in the technology, sports, media, live events, marketing, and entertainment sectors. Today, Bruin’s reach spans five continents, and its companies are in business with virtually every top sports league, rights holder, governing body, blue-chip brand, and sporting event.

He is also Non-Executive Chairman of Courtside Ventures, an early-stage fund launched in 2016 devoted to entrepreneurs transforming the intersection of sports, media, and technology. Courtside has backed more than 30 enterprises specializing in media, esports, e-commerce, virtual and augmented reality, data, AI and live streaming among others.

Before Bruin, as President and Board Member of IMG Sports & Entertainment, his game-changing strategies ignited exponential revenue growth for multiple global business lines. This work was credited as the basis for IMG’s record $2.4B sale price in 2014. Before that, as Chief Operating Officer and Board Member of NASCAR, he took the sport from regional power to national sensation and delivered billions in new revenue with breakthroughs in on-and-off-track operations and safety and an entirely new strategic approach to commercialization.

While at Portman Companies, before joining NASCAR, Pyne played a central role in organizing a massive $2B debt restructuring for the company which was founded by its namesake John Portman, the world-renowned architect, and developer. There he also launched his first business, AMC Events, devoted to management and marketing of sports-related properties, which he ran. His role at Portman, followed his service to the Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, where he was brought in to review the fiscal operations of the City’s School Budget. His analysis led to sweeping advancements in the overall operation.

Multiple prestigious publications and organizations have recognized Pyne as one of the great sports industrialists of the last quarter century. He is a Board Member of the National Football Foundation and the National Catholic Charities for the Archdiocese of New York and was previously on the Board of 24 Hour Fitness. Pyne is a graduate of Brown University where he was also Football Team Captain and an All-Ivy League, and All-New England honoree.
