Michael has invested directly at the security level and indirectly as an asset allocator in alternative and traditional asset classes over his career. He has managed, lead and built investment businesses, including distribution and client relation teams.
His most recent role, Managing Director and the Head of Alternative Investments at First Republic. Previously Michael was a Managing Director, on the Investment Committee and a board member at APG, a Dutch pension, the Chief Investment Officer at Protege Partners, a portfolio manager and global head of equities at FRM, a multi-strategy investment solutions provider. Prior to that, he was a portfolio manager at Soros, the foundation and family office, and at Credit Suisse. Michael started his career as a Real Estate analyst at Morgan Stanley. As an Adjunct Professor of Economics and Finance at Columbia Business School, he created and teaches Institutional Investing.
He is a published author, having written for and been interviewed by The New York Times, international investment books and other media publications. He also testifies as an expert witness. Michael is a frequent speaker for wealth management, institutional and family office organizations. He has a BS from New York University and an MBA from Columbia Business School.
