Alliott Cole
CEO at Octopus Ventures


Alliott joined Octopus Ventures in 2008 as the team was formed and made its first investments. He later became CEO in 2017. Since Alliott joined, the firm has backed nearly 100 pioneering companies and grown to become one of Europe’s largest venture investors with over £1.2 billion under management.

He currently serves as a Board Member at Secret Escapes, Cazoo, Swoon Editions and Big Health. He focuses on internet-enabled services, enterprise software, and consumer innovation. Alliott Chairs the Investment Committee at Octopus Ventures and sits on the Board of the Octopus Group Executive Committee. Alliott has also spent two years working in the US when he established Octopus Ventures’ office in New York.

The key investments he has been involved in at Octopus include (a digital healthcare company); Conversocial (a B2B customer service software); the food e-commerce business Graze (acquired by Unilever), the ecommerce platform Rangespan (acquired by Google), the machine learning technology startup Magic Pony (acquired by Twitter), Permutive (an edge computing company); Sofar Sounds (a global music company); the pet food company (acquired by Nestle), and the property portal website Zoopla (that listed on LSE and & was later acquired by SilverLake).

Under his leadership, the team has continued to evolve and now focuses on those entrepreneurs reimagining the future of health, the future of money and deep tech.

Before arriving at Octopus, Alliott previously worked as a lawyer at Ashurst, where he spent time working for IBM, Sporting Bet, UC Rusal, and NM Rothschild. Alliott has also held positions on the Board of the British Business Angel Association. He holds a Masters in Classics from Oxford University.
