Managing Partner and CEO at Sandbox Industries

Matt Downs joined Sandbox Industries in 2004, a year after its founding, and is currently the co-CEO of the firm. An investment professional throughout his career, Matt was responsible for establishing Sandbox's unique approach to venture-stage investing through a closer collaboration with the investors. His vision for Sandbox has shaped the culture of the firm and the firm’s expansion into new industry sectors.

Matt established Sandbox’s healthcare venture practice in partnership with BCBSA and the Blue Venture Funds. As co-CEO of Sandbox, Matt maintains operational oversight of the firm’s investment processes and capital deployment criteria and lends his extensive venture investing experience to each fund Sandbox manages. In addition, he actively serves on the board of a number of the firm’s portfolio companies.

Prior to joining Sandbox, Matt was a venture investor with Highland Capital Partners. He started his career with Morgan Stanley in its New York M&A group. Matt holds an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business and a BA from Brigham Young University.
