Brian McCarthy is an Assistant Director in Analytical Development and Quality Control at Ionis Pharmaceuticals in Carlsbad, California. He joined Ionis in 2019, where he has led several early-stage neurology oligonucleotide programs and contributed to the CMC sections of those IND filings. He is responsible for supporting manufacturing and release of clinical oligonucleotide Drug Substance and Drug Product. He has over 15 years industry experience, with expertise in biochemical method development, qualification, and validation. He studied Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of San Diego. Prior to Ionis, he has worked in analytical development and quality control at Pfizer, Allergan, and Biogen, developing methods to analyze viruses, VLP’s, nanoparticles, mRNA, protein complexes, and monoclonal antibodies.
