After an ill-fated Master’s in Aquaculture in Alabama and an explosive gig as an analytical chemist in San Diego, Uncle Bill humbly returned to Wisconsin and defaulted to an insurance sales job in 1995. He spent the last ten years of that tenure as state director of recruiting and agent development, until hitching his wagon to the wrong horse crash-landed him into a cube at American Family Insurance in 2009. He bounced around for a few years there until landing in an innovation role at the company. Several pivots later, he’s built a name for himself coaching internal search teams in the fine art of customer discovery, rapid experimentation, and value creation. His secret? Combining the behaviors of agile, startup, and design-- while staying tool-agnostic. He thrives on the transformational changes he sees in the lives and work of the people he influences.
In his spare time, Bill runs several online education businesses and coaches startup entrepreneurs internationally. At his age, those apparently qualify as hobbies.
