Alison is the Group Tax Manager of the Petroleum Oil and Gas Corporation of South Africa (SOC) Limited (“PetroSA”). Alison has a Masters of Commerce: Accounting (Taxation) from the University of Cape Town, is a practising member of the South African Institute of Professional Accountants (SAIPA), is an associate member of the South African Institute of Bankers, a member of the tax working group of the South Africa Petroleum Industry Association (SAPIA) and the Chairman of the Tax and Finance Sub-committee of the Offshore Petroleum Association of South Africa (OPASA).
Since joining PetroSA in 2006, she has gained experience in areas of taxation that are unique to the business activities of an integrated oil and gas company. PetroSA is engaged in upstream (mining activities) and midstream (refining activities). The taxes unique to mining activities are contained in the Tenth Schedule to the Income Tax Act and the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Royalty Act. The taxes unique to refining activities are Duty At Source, incorporating excise, road accident fund and fuel levies.
In her role as Group Tax Manager, Alison was responsible for the tax compliance, transfer pricing documentation, tax risk management and tax advisory for each of the countries in which PetroSA operates. This implies a working knowledge of tax in 5 different tax jurisdictions. Also expected of her in her role as Group Tax Manager is transaction tax advisory as part of the commercial evaluation team at PetroSA that investigates new investment opportunities.
Alison will participate at TP Minds Africa 2021 Virtual Conference as a member of the panel discussion concerning the Wider African Tax Landscape: Customs, VAT & Other Tax Issues.
