James KaranjaTransfer Pricing Lead, Kenya at ANDERSEN
James is the immediate former Head of Secretariat of Tax Inspectors without Borders (2016-2020). He was responsible for developing TIWB into a highly visible and successful international capacity building project of the OECD UNDP initiative focused on building tax audit knowledge and skills with tax administrations in developing countries. He has worked extensively on international tax issues including transfer pricing audits, investigations and legislative reforms at the Kenya Revenue Authority (2003-2015). James spearheaded Africa’s contribution to OECD-G20 Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (BEPS) as chair of the Africa Tax Administration Forum Technical Committee, the OECD Committee on Fiscal Affairs and a member of OECD Working Party 1 on Tax treaties. He was also responsible for managing Kenya’s Global Forum on Transparency peer reviews in which Kenya was rated Largely Compliant and also served as a peer assessor for Albania reviews. James has represented Kenya at international tax meetings and addressed numerous conferences with extensive experience working with international organizations, bilateral donor agencies and NGOs. He is passionate about empowerment and sharing knowledge and building capacity for development.
