Peter GartrellSenior Investigator at US Senate Finance Committee
Peter Gartrell is a senior investigator on the Senate Finance Committee, leading health care oversight for Chairman Ron Wyden (D-OR). He has conducted major investigations on issues including the pricing of insulin and hepatitis C drugs, opioid manufacturers’ funding of pain advocacy groups, and shortfalls in nursing home safety. The Wall Street Journal described one report he drafted as “perhaps the most transparent look ever into pricing decisions in the modern drug business.” Peter previously worked for Senator Wyden on the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, and as an American Political Science Association fellow on the House Natural Resources Committee on the staff of Ranking Member Ed Markey (D-MA).
Prior to Congress, he worked as a journalist covering the coal industry for Platts, an international energy news service, and the Gillette (Wyo.) News-Record. Peter holds a B.A. in Geography from Macalester College. A native of Durham, N.C., he once spent a summer selling beer at a minor league baseball park in New Mexico, and enjoys writing and playing country music, cooking, and traveling.
