Profile
Joshua A. Weinberg is Senior Special Counsel (Fellow) in the Analytics Office of the Division of Investment Management at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. He provides advice, guidance and perspective on exchange-traded fund, mutual fund and general investment management matters, including with respect to policy, enforcement, rulemaking, examinations, disclosure and requests for regulatory relief.
Mr. Weinberg joined the SEC in 2019 from State Street Global Advisors, where he was Managing Director and Managing Counsel, and a member of the firm’s Senior Leadership Team. He served as the Chief Legal Officer for registered funds with assets of over $500 billion and led a team of lawyers and legal professionals responsible for handling all legal matters pertaining to one of the world’s largest ETF and mutual fund complexes. Prior to joining State Street Global Advisors in 2011, he was an associate in the Financial Services Group of Dechert LLP, where he advised registered investment companies, registered investment advisers and Boards of Trustees on federal securities law matters.
Mr. Weinberg earned his B.S., cum laude, from Tufts University and his J.D. from Boston University School of Law, where he served as the Editor in Chief of the Journal of Science & Technology Law. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Mystic River Watershed Association and is a lecturer at the Boston University School of Law Graduate Program in Banking & Financial Law.
