Dr. Kathryn Matthias is a research scientist and regulatory reviewer for the US Food and Drug Administration in Silver Spring, MD. With an extensive background in bacterial pathogenesis, Dr. Matthias provides broad expertise in the area of bacterial vaccine development under the auspices of the Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research. Her primary role is to evaluate bioassay design for the analysis of vaccine products for potency at the time of release, as well as serological responses to vaccines in the context of clinical trials. These regulatory responsibilities are supported by research conducted by Dr. Matthias, with a focus on improving methods for assessing bactericidal responses to Neisseria-specific vaccines.
