Yas in Schools

Yas Marina Circuit, in collaboration with Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), brings you Yas in Schools, a youth-focused initiative that offers schools a pathway for project-based STEM learning programmes.

Students, aged eight to 21 years old, learn essential skills across science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in a fun and unique environment. Working together in small enterprising teams, students design, innovate, manufacture, test, and race small-scale model cars to compete in school and external competitions.

Yas in Schools aims to inspire and develop “The Engineers of the Future”, equipping them with 21st Century skills and developing their passion for STEM subjects, while also providing teachers with exciting and easy-to-adopt themed programmes and resources for delivering a broad range of learning outcomes.

FORMULA ETHARA™

STEAM & CROSS CURRICULAR LEARNING CYCLE 1 / GRADES 3-6

Formula Ethara is a Classroom Racing Team Challenge, and project-based learning formula for children to develop 21st Century skills. “Ethara” is arabic for “excitement”! Through the production of a model race car made from paper card, the program provides teachers with a teamwork platform for delivering a wide range of learning related to design, simple CAD/CAM technology, graphic arts, science, maths, literacy, and enterprise. The excitement is maximised on race day when the children get to test their cars on the Formula Ethara Race Track! Ideal for delivery as a year group-wide themed topic, Formula Ethara develops in children a passion for designing and making in their early years.

F1 IN SCHOOLS™

THE FORMULA ONE STEM CHALLENGE CYCLE 2-3 / GRADES 7-11

Taking place in the UAE since 2009, the biggest international STEM competition sees teams plan, research, design, analyse, manufacture and test a miniature “F1® car” using CAD / CAM / CNC tools. The cars are powered by CO2 compressed gas for racing the 20-metres distance in just over a second! Teams compete both within their school, regionally and nationally for a chance to represent the UAE at the F1 in Schools World Finals and become World Champions! Students cover multiple topics from physics and aerodynamics, through to design, graphics, sponsorship, marketing as well as leadership, teamwork, and strategy, and apply them in a practical, imaginative, competitive and exciting way. Abu Dhabi Motorsports Management is the exclusive supplier for all related program technologies and equipment.

4X4 IN SCHOOLS™ TECHNOLOGY CHALLENGE

CYCLE 2-3 / GRADES 10-12 TERTIARY

Push classroom boundaries and venture into new STEM terrains with the Land Rover 4x4 in Schools Technology Challenge, which requires students to work in teams to design, build and code a remotely controlled four-wheel drive (4x4) vehicle. It must successfully navigate and complete obstacles on an off-road test track which is just as demanding as a real off-road situation, emulating the capabilities of a full size 4x4 vehicle. The UAE competition has a strong emphasis on coding and programming with students challenged to innovate, using sensors and vehicle control systems on the Arduino platform along with mobile app development. The best teams represent the UAE at the Land Rover 4x4 in Schools World Finals.
