Matthew has thirty years’ worth of experience prosecuting serious and complex fraud. Presently, he is the Director of Legal Services and General Counsel at the Serious Fraud Office. In this role, he acts as Head of Profession for all SFO lawyers and is responsible for the provision of strategic and operational legal advice across the business. He is a member of the SFO Board and Executive Team.

Prior to taking up his current role, Matthew was one of the SFO’s Joint Heads of Fraud, Bribery & Corruption where he led multi-disciplinary teams responsible for supervising investigations and prosecutions that spanned the entire breadth of SFO casework.

Matthew’s previous roles include senior leadership positions in the Crown Prosecution Service, the Revenue and Customs Prosecutions Office and HM Customs and Excise.
