Starting his career as an agricultural entomologist in 1961, T. M. Manjunath worked extensively on biological control of a wide variety of crop pests, integrated pest management (IPM) and insect resistant transgenic Bt cotton at a time when these areas were barely explored and made several pioneering contributions towards their research and practical applications. He has always maintained that all control measures are important and championed the cause of IPM. He served in several expert committees on plant protection constituted by FAO, WHO, Govt. of India, etc. Presently, he is an independent consultant on Biocontrol, IPM and Agri-biotechnology.
