Profile
Joshua Peles is a PhD student in Chemical Engineering at Pennsylvania State University, studying under Dr. Andrew Zydney with a focus in downstream bioprocessing. The majority of Josh’s work has focused on investigating the effects of operating flow conditions (specifically constant-pressure vs. constant-flux operation methods & low vs. high pressure/flux conditions) on the mechanism(s) & extent of protein fouling and viral clearance during virus filtration; this work is part of a collaborative project between Penn State and MilliporeSigma, with the goal of assessing the feasibility of adapting current virus filter technologies to continuous operations. Josh completed a six-month NSF-funded graduate research internship as an extension of this project with MilliporeSigma in 2022 at their Bedford site, to observe this work from a more industry-focused perspective and increase the resources available for his testing. He started his graduate studies at Penn State in 2019 and plans to wrap them up by late 2023 / early 2024.
