Mark Noguchi, Global Head, Alliance and Asset Management at Roche discusses with Scrip’s Brian Yang the Swiss biotech's plan to tap into emerging IT for partnering opportunities in China. Roche has been quietly looking for partnering in Asia Pacific, tapping into China's leadership in IT and emerging artificial intelligence and machine learning technology. Facing increasing competition from biosimilars to its best-selling oncology treatment, Roche is looking at personalized healthcare, a method of using real-world data to drive research, including patient selection for clinical studies so the patients will mostly benefit from Roche medicines. With the largest population data, China could potentially become a source for medicine innovation. Roche sees that translational medicines are still a challenge in China, but that can be solved with the help of multinational drug makers. This interview was recorded at ChinaBio® Partnering Forum organized by EBD Group and ChinaBio® Group in Zhuhai, Guangdong, in May 2017.
