Richard Romney is a Senior Legal Director at the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) with responsibility for the legal teams working across mergers, markets and regulatory appeals. He was previously a Director of Mergers, leading case teams investigating a wide range of mergers across different sectors at Phases 1 and 2. Prior to joining the CMA in 2019, he was a senior associate in the competition team of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in London. He holds undergraduate degrees in law from Cambridge University and Université Paris II (Panthéon-Assas) and a postgraduate degree in international commercial law from the University of Nottingham.
