Jacob Turner is a barrister at Fountain Court Chambers and author of ‘Robot Rules: Regulating Artificial Intelligence’ (2018), which has been described by Lord Neuberger as “timely, thought-provoking and significant”. A Chinese edition of Robot Rules was published by Renmin University Press in 2023. Jacob is also a co-author of ‘The Law of Artificial Intelligence’ (2nd ed) (2024). He has been described in the Legal 500 directory as “the leading barrister in the AI space” and is listed by Chambers and Partners as a Global Leader in AI.
Jacob regularly advises governments, regulators, and companies on the governance of AI and has acted in some of the leading cases in this area. He represented a group of Uber and Ola Cabs drivers in a ground-breaking legal case in the Dutch Courts, challenging the use of AI to ‘robo-fire’ gig economy workers, in which Jacob’s clients were successful in the Court of Appeal in April 2023. Jacob was counsel for the appellant in the ‘AI Inventor’ case Thaler v Comptroller General of Patents in the UK Supreme Court. Jacob advises the UK Government on AI and has also advised INTERPOL and other UN bodies.
