XQ started working for Esco in his teens due to an intense interest in Product Development and Business as well as a sense of responsibility to rescue the then struggling family business. In his 20’s, under the guidance of many mentors and with a strong work ethic and determination, XQ spearheaded the development of most of Esco’s life science equipment products, established a distribution network in over 100 countries, thereby transforming the Esco group from a local SME to a truly global player in its field, with localized operations across the US, Europe, China, and Southeast Asia. Now Esco provides jobs for over 1200 families worldwide, with the hope of creating more in the future, now that the group has moved into bigger fields such as medical devices, novel life sciences tools, diagnostics and biotech.

As an infertility patient himself, XQ also spearheaded Esco’s thrust into the IVF medical devices field, and is one of the pioneering Asian investors in the women’s health and reproductive medicine technologies field. He also co-founded and currently serves as Chairman of Carmentix Pte Ltd, which is the first mover from Asia in the pre-term birth prognostics field, tackling what some consider to be a “holy grail” of obstetrics.

In 2015, XQ founded Esco Ventures, the corporate venture and incubation arm of Esco Group, which has now invested in 10 startups with a portfolio IRR of approximately 45%. In an effort to contribute to the Asian biotech ecosystem, XQ established Esco Ventures X in 2018, a springboard for biotech startups, as well as the Esco Ventures Morphosis Fellowship program, to groom the next generation of biotech entrepreneurs and pay forward. Esco Ventures X is currently incubating multiple therapeutics platforms in the microbiome, RNA therapeutics and other emerging fields. His personal motto is to “make the unreasonable reasonable, one step at a time”.

During his tenure at Esco, the group’s enterprise value has increased around 100 times. He graduated with a BSc in Economics from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
