Biometric services CRO Ephicacy Consulting Group has bought data management tech firm Advance Research Associates (ARA).

The acquisition – financial terms of which were not disclosed – is designed to enhance Ephicacy’s capabilities in biostatistics and data management.

CEO Ganesh Gopal, cited growing market demand for informatics and data management technologies as the primary motivation for the takeover.

"Now, more than ever, drug developers need reliable partners who can help them navigate the complexities of data in clinical trials.”

“This acquisition deepens our biostatistics and data management solutions and reinforces our ability to drive impactful outcomes for our clients and the patients they serve," Gopal said.

According to its website, since its establishment in 1996, ARA has supported over 700 clinical trials by providing custom data management and biostatistical consulting services. The company’s customer base includes pharmaceutical, biotech, medical device, and diagnostic companies.

Ephicacy, which was founded in 2005, provides biometrics and clinical analytics services. The firm is set up to have a flexible service delivery approach offering both Functional Service Provider and project-based solutions.

Expansion

The takeover will see ARA founder and CEO Peter Shabe join the New Jersey contract research organization’s (CRO’s) team as global head of biostatistics consulting, which comes just months after Ephicacy rejigged its executive team.

In March, the firm hired Jim Baker as chief operating officer, Sukhvinder Singh as chief financial officer and Ioana Mihalache as chief people officer.

Ephicacy also hired Santhosh Kumar to manage its operations, people across India and continue expanding its global delivery reach.

The CRO has sought to expand its global reach and range of services since it attracted investment from Great Point Partners in 2022.

At the time Rohan Saikia, managing director at Great Point Partners, said "Ephicacy has been growing rapidly, and we are excited to partner with Ganesh and the rest of the team to accelerate growth."
