Mr. Caldwell Mead Welles has unique experience in trade and commodity finance, emerging market fixed income asset management, and emerging market structured finance. Mr. Welles is the Founder, Chief Executive Officer and Head Portfolio Manager at Octagon Asset Management, LLC which he launched in 1997. Octagon is a niche asset manager that specializes in structured trade and commodity finance. Prior to Octagon, Mr. Welles worked at Cargill Financial Services International as one of the original members of the emerging markets, trade and structured finance group, where he focused on finding ways of using Cargill’s international trade and working capital flows to arbitrage capital markets, finance subsidiaries, finance its exports and imports, mitigate risks and minimize balance sheet usage. Prior to Cargill, Mr. Welles worked in asset management at Bull & Bear Securities and at Shearson Lehman Hutton. He received his BA in Economics from Bates College in Lewiston, ME with additional studies in International Business in Lugano, Switzerland. In 2002, Mr. Welles co-founded A Leg To Stand On a “non-for-profit” that helps children in developing countries with limb disabilities and presently serves as its Chairman.
