Gerald Ong is currently the Manager for Non-Aeronautical Development of Hamad International Airport (HIA), Qatar, where he leads, enhance and execute commercial revenue strategy at HIA in line with the airport’s positioning, brand and development plans.
Prior to joining HIA, he was with Plaza Premium Group (PPG) as Business Development Director, managing expansion of PPG’s business portfolio such as lounges, F&B, meet & greet, airport hotel and airport passenger services across the South East Asia region.
Being in the industry for over 13 years, he was with Malaysia Airports for 11 years, last held the role as Senior Manager of Business Development, focusing on positioning and growth of Malaysia Airports business internationally. Gerald was part of the investment and project team that successfully completed the 80% acquisition of Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen International Airport (ISG), 2nd busiest airport in Turkey from GMR Group and Limak in Year 2014 and Year 2015 respectively, making Malaysia Airports the first Asian company to fully own a European airport. Following the integration of ISG into Malaysia Airports group, Gerald was later seconded to ISG in October 2015 as the liaison office and asset manager under the Executive Director office. Subsequently, he also held the role of Aviation Marketing and Cargo Director ISG from April 2018 to September 2020.
