Derek Moran, CFA, is senior vice president of residential mortgage-backed ratings and research for Morningstar DBRS. He is responsible for rating and producing RMBS models, primarily for reverse mortgage and home equity investments transactions.Before joining Morningstar DBRS, Derek was senior vice president on the investment team at Merganser Capital, where he was head of mortgages and covered all structured products including ABS. Previously, he worked as a data analyst, leading design and development of fixed-income tools at Wellington Management.Derek holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Cape Town. He also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation.
