AJ Dhaliwal is a Washington, D.C.-based financial services regulatory and enforcement attorney. He co-leads Sheppard Mullin’s Consumer Finance Team and is a member of the firm’s Chambers-ranked Blockchain and Fintech Team.
AJ advises banks, fintechs, mortgage companies, payment providers, auto lenders, and other financial services firms on regulatory compliance, licensing, enforcement, and transactions. He represents clients before federal and state agencies, including the CFPB, FTC, DOJ, HUD, OCC, FDIC, FinCEN, SBA, and state regulators such as the California DFPI and New York DFS.
His work spans a wide range of laws, including the Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA), Truth in Lending Act (TILA), RESPA, FCRA, EFTA, SCRA, MLA, FDCPA, GLBA, BSA/AML laws, and UDAP/UDAAP statutes. He frequently handles matters involving government investigations, supervisory exams, and multistate inquiries.
AJ also advises on fintech innovation and product development, helping clients navigate regulatory risks in embedded finance, third-party partnerships, and digital payments. He supports M&A transactions and commercial arrangements by providing due diligence and structuring guidance with a regulatory lens.
