Profile

Alice S. Hrdy counsels banks, fintech companies, and nonbank financial services providers in examinations, investigations, and supervisory matters before US financial regulatory agencies. The former principal deputy in the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s (CFPB) Office of Supervision Policy, and assistant director of the Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) Bureau of Consumer Protection, Division of Financial Practices, Alice leverages her deep familiarity with consumer financial services laws and regulations to help clients develop and implement effective compliance programs, provide strategic advice on regulatory and enforcement matters, and represent clients in litigation involving financial products and services.

At the CFPB, Alice led the development of the federal government’s policies, priorities, and rules for consumer protection examinations of the largest banks in the US as well as nondepository financial services providers. She oversaw the CFPB’s supervision program across all markets under the agency’s jurisdiction as well as rulemakings to extend the CFPB’s supervisory authority over various nonbank markets. Alice joined the Treasury Department in September 2010 to stand up the CFPB and led the formation of the first federal supervision program for nonbank financial services providers.

Prior to her tenure at the CFPB, Alice served for 16 years at the FTC, where she held several key positions, including assistant director in the Division of Financial Practices, attorney advisor to the chairman and the Bureau of Consumer Protection director, and litigation attorney. Companies operating in consumer finance, from banks to credit agencies and fintechs, seek out Alice for her three decades of shaping and enforcing federal consumer financial regulatory policies to help them develop effective compliance governance structures, mitigate risk, and avoid potential violations.
