Maria Glover

Maria Glover is the Carmack Waterhouse Professor of Law at Georgetown University Law Center. Glover is a leading expert in the fields of civil procedure and civil justice; complex litigation; and private litigation and dispute resolution. Her writing has appeared in the Stanford Law Review, the Yale Law Journal, the N.Y.U. Law Review, the University of Pennsylvania Law Review, and elsewhere. In 2023, she was awarded Berkeley Law’s Civil Justice Research Initiative’s Best Article Prize for Mass Arbitration, published in the Stanford Law Review. Also in 2023, she was elected to the membership of the American Law Institute.

Professor Glover is the author of a casebook on CIVIL PROCEDURE (Aspen Publishers, 2020 (2d ed. 2023)) (with Howard M. Erichson) and a forthcoming casebook on AGGREGATE LITIGATION AND DISPUTE RESOLUTION (Thompson West (with Elizabeth Cabraser, Robert Klonoff, and Teddy Rave)). Her work has been quoted by numerous courts, including the United States Supreme Court. She has testified before Congressional committees regarding class actions, multi-district litigation, procedural justice reform measures, and litigation finance.

Glover’s work on litigation finance has been published in the NYU Journal of Law and Business and the Journal of Theoretical Inquiries in Law; this work has been cited by various courts in the United States, including by Judge Bibas in his recent opinion in Design With Friends, Inc. v. Target Corp. (2024). Glover has been invited to speak and lecture about litigation finance at various universities, including Yale Law School, the University of Chicago School of Law, the University of Pennsylvania School of Law, New York University School of Law, and Tel Aviv University. In 2026, Glover will co-host a symposium about the global legal finance industry with the New York University Law Review.

Her work, including her work on litigation finance, has been featured in the national press, and she is a frequent commentator on legal issues in the media, including The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times, SLATE, REUTERS, Bloomberg, The Hill, and elsewhere.
