Hu Liang is an entrepreneur, technologist, and financial services executive. He is the Founder and CEO of Novellus, an institutional fintech network reimagining securities lending through a direct, principal-to-principal market structure.
Previously, Hu founded Omniex, an institutional digital asset trading platform that was acquired by Gemini Trust Company. Before that, he spent a decade at State Street Bank & Trust, serving as Senior Vice President within State Street Global Markets in both the U.S. and Hong Kong. While at State Street, Hu also founded the bank’s Emerging Technology Center, which helped incubate initiatives in distributed ledger technology, including R3, as well as early applications of digitization and machine learning.
Hu joined State Street through the acquisition of Currenex, the first institutional multi-bank high-frequency FX trading platform, founded in Menlo Park, California.
He began his career in distributed systems engineering at IBM’s Almaden Research Center and later worked as a management consultant. Hu holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Rutgers University and an MBA from UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business.
