For this reason, the European Union, via the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and the Ministry of Agriculture, are co-financing the Vitinnat project, a pioneering investigation that has taken on the challenge of how to eradicate vine trunk problems naturally.

The general objective of the project is to provide the wine sector with natural, sustainable and innovative solutions in the prevention and fight of wood diseases, to increase productivity without influencing the quality of the wine.

To solve this problem, the Vitinnat Operational Group will develop a new natural product based on natural extracts to control vine wood diseases transmitted by air, and it will demonstrate that the proposed ozone technology can control soil-borne wood diseases.

The project’s main partners include Business Association for Research in the National Agri-Food Technology Center of Extremadura (CTAEX), Bodega Matarromera SL, IDAI NATURE SL, AGROZONO SL, Instituto de Salud Carlos III (ISCIII). Other partners include BIOLOGICA NATURE SL, DOP Regulatory Council. Ribera del Duero, Wine Technology Platform Association, Spanish Society for Ecological Agriculture, Extremadura Scientific and Technological Research Center (CICYTEX), Celtiberian Serranía Association, Association against Rural Depopulation, Agrifood Cooperatives of Spain, Manzanilla Olive SCA.
