Doctor Royston is a consultant psychiatrist with over twenty years’ experience in medico-legal work. Through her consultancy company, Sempergens, Doctor Royston works internationally to provide a report and give evidence as an independent expert witness. She accepts instructions within the Court of Protection, Coroners Court and in relation to contentious probate with particular experience in making a retrospective assessment of testamentary capacity and presence of undue influence.

Doctor Royston has undertaken a number of national roles, including Medical Member of the First Tier Tribunal Service, where she also acted on the National Training Committee, Vice President of the Royal Society of Medicine, and a Care Quality Commission approved Lead Second Opinion Approved Doctor. In her previous role as Group Medical Director for Four Seasons Healthcare, Doctor Royston oversaw the safe and effective running of over 300 care homes and specialist mental health hospitals across England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Wales. Her key responsibilities covered all aspects of care delivery. Currently working as the Non-Executive Director of Ivolve, Doctor Royston has continued her life-long commitment to making a meaning difference to individuals where circumstance, illness or inequality act to compromise or erode lived experience. Joining the Board on a part-time basis, Doctor Royston lends her wealth of experience and in-depth sector knowledge to provide support with a particular focus on quality, governance and regulation.

An evidence-based pathfinder, Doctor Royston has a proven track record of translating innovation into actions and positive outcomes through the use of technology and cultural change. Her leadership and communication styles are values based and effective both within the Board room, with her Colleagues, and with key stakeholders.
