Michael CameronExternal Stakeholder Lead, Making Tax Digital for Business at HMRCSpeaker
Profile
Michael is a 57-year-old Ulsterman, who now lives and works in Peterborough. He has worked in the Civil Service since 1978, and HM Revenue & Customs since January 1984. Initially in local offices, mainly on accounts compliance but since 1995 in central office work on various programmes including the introduction of Self Assessment, managing the transition to the year 2000 (I2K) and the Carter Programme (SA Online Filing and VAT Online Filing). He has worked in various programme roles including requirements, design, implementation, communications, business change, external engagement, and policy. I currently work in an HMRC Transformation role – working with a wide range of Business customers (Software Developers, Business Rep Bodies and Agent Rep bodies) to explain HMRCs Digital plans and bringing customer insights back into HMRC. He was part of the formal Making Tax Digital for business consultation team, and now responsible for HRMCs strategy to encourage volunteers to join Making Tax Digital pilots.

Outside of work, Michael has a keen interest in history, especially political history, art (I sketch and paint) and he plays contract bridge – sometimes competitive but mostly for fun. He also enjoys watching all kinds of sport. But with three grown-up daughters, and four grandchildren my weekends tend not to be my own.
Michael has a keen interest in Digital Technology, he's written several (for home consumption) computer programs, as well as developing various websites.
