Profile

Dr. Hassan Awada earned his bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering from the University of Michigan, and his PhD degree in Bioengineering from the University of Pittsburgh. In 2009, Hassan completed a fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic, performing research in the urodynamics field, and evaluating the performance of urethral catheters. In 2010, Hassan worked at the FDA evaluating the effects of bone cement used in vertebroplasty on the mechanics of the human spine. In his PhD research, Hassan focused on developing controlled drug delivery systems loaded with various growth factors to regenerate damaged rodent cardiac tissue after heart attacks. After completing his PhD in 2016, He started his professional career in industry at a preclinical oncology CRO (MI Bioresearch, was acquired by Labcorp), directing small animal studies testing new cancer therapies for clients. In 2019, Hassan entered the medical device industry through NAMSA as a study director for GLP biocompatibility and functional evaluation tests in small and large animals based on ISO 10993 series and various regulatory guidelines. Hassan joined Cardinal Health in 2021 as a biocompatibility manager leading a team of scientists, performing biological evaluations, risk assessments, process mapping and improvements, and effecting changes of departmental policies and procedures to ultimately ensure the biological safety, quality, and compliance of Cardinal’s medical devices and products.

Hassan was born and raised in Lebanon, and moved to the US in 2005. He’s fluent in Arabic and English. He lives in Michigan with his wife and 2 young daughters.
