Jean Bendaly is a Principal Toxicologist at Medtronic, where since 2014, he has served as a subject matter expert for a wide variety of technologies and devices from different internal business units, including long-term implantable devices and drug-device combination products. Prior to Medtronic, he held a Project Toxicologist position at Alcon Laboratories Inc. for 6 years, responsible for providing biological safety evaluations and toxicological risk assessments for intraocular lenses (IOLs) and other surgical and consumer products; in addition, he served as a Study Director for exploratory and GLP-regulated nonclinical toxicology studies in support of regulatory submissions.
Jean earned a Ph.D. in Public Health with a specialty in Toxicology from the University of South Florida, and then held a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Louisville, Department of Pharmacology & Toxicology. Jean currently participates in AAMI working groups (BE-WG13 - Toxicokinetics study design as a primary voter; BE-WG07 - Systemic toxicity as an alternate voter; and BE-WG11 – Establishment of allowable limits for leachable substances as a non-voter) and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Toxicology.
