Marion Duffy is a Managing Director in the Accounting Advisory practice in EMEA. Ms. Duffy has more than 20 years of experience in accounting, audit, and advisory services in a variety of industries including renewable energy, technology, biotechnology, diamond mining, fishing, international shipping, and manufacturing. Her experience covers both International Financial Reporting Standards (“IFRS”) and U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (“U.S. GAAP”).
Ms. Duffy is engaged by corporate clients on accounting advisory matters, planning for and evaluating the accounting impact and disclosure of transactions, adopting new accounting standards, responding to regulator and SEC inquiries, applying SEC regulations, preparing SEC filings, and responding to auditor requests. She also conducts internal investigations concerning accounting and financial reporting fraud and misappropriation of assets, and assists clients in preparing for litigation matters involving accounting topics. Her clients range from start-ups to large publicly traded companies. Most recently, she served as Acting Chief Accounting Officer at a NYSE-listed renewable energy company for eight months.
Ms. Duffy’s experience in IFRS and U.S. GAAP covers a variety of technical accounting issues, including revenue recognition, leases, business combinations, stock-based compensation, consolidations, foreign currencies, goodwill, intangible assets, earnings per share, collaboration agreements, inverted lease and partnership flip fund accounting, variable interest entities, and hypothetical liquidation at book value (“HLBV”) calculations.
Ms. Duffy has assisted clients in the biotechnology, fintech, technology, and renewable energy industries in planning for and executing initial public offerings on both the NYSE and NASDAQ. She proactively manages all financial reporting aspects of an S-1 document and assists clients in responding to the inevitable challenges that arise during the process.
Most recently, Ms. Duffy served as the Acting Chief Accounting Officer for eight months at a NYSE-listed company in the renewable energy sector with revenues of $1 billion. She was responsible for all aspects of the accounting and financial reporting functions, including the technical accounting assessment of complex transactions, the filing of the company’s Forms 10-K and 10-Q and the management of a global team of 50 people.
Ms. Duffy’s technical accounting experience has been as part of both a corporate technical accounting team as well as a client services team. She has also worked in the industry as a controller for a mid-sized consulting firm in Brussels, Belgium and London, United Kingdom. She began her career at Deloitte, South Africa, where she was the first woman audit partner and specialized in multi-national clients listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange and reporting under IFRS.
