Now in its 7th year, the Christine Pierre Clinical Trials Lifetime Achievement Award, in association with mdgroup, celebrates the ground-breaking work and contributions of individuals across the field of clinical trials who are making a positive difference. The shortlist for the 2021 prize has been announced and we are taking a closer look at each of the nominees - see all the profiles here. Here we focus on Craig Lipset, Founder & Advisor, Clinical Innovation Partners & Co-Chair, Decentralized Trials & Research Alliance (DTRA). Cast your vote for this year's Lifetime Achievement Award winner here.

We previously spoke to Lipset about how the Decentralized Trials & Research Alliance is using collaboration to increase adoption of decentralized clinical trials and the future of the organization.

In his own words

"My career has been dedicated to identifying and scaling innovative new approaches to improve clinical trials. I have chosen a career path to build experience and empathy across the range of stakeholders needed to make progress happen -- pharma (Pfizer) and biotech (Adnexus Therapeutics), CRO (Parexel) and tech (Perceptive Informatics), research sites (Columbia, MedStar and Circuit) and advocacy. During my 12 years at Pfizer I served as Head of Clinical Innovation including opportunities to design and help lead the industry's first fully decentralized trial, developing and scaling patient insights for all studies, launching the industry's first participant alumni program and return of results, among other milestones.

I remain focused on working with diverse stakeholders to identify and scale innovative solutions in medicine development by spending my time as an Educator, an Advocate, a Convener and an Advisor. I teach on the faculty at Rutgers University as an Assistant Professor of Health Informatics, and serve as Vice President of the Foundation for Sarcoidosis Research as well as Vice Chair for the MedStar Health Research Institute. I am the co-founder and Co-Chair of the Decentralized Trials & Research Alliance, the largest non-profit collaboration focused exclusively on the global adoption of decentralized research. And I lead an Advisory practice supporting pharmaceutical and biotech companies, technology companies, investors and health systems."

How the voting works

Voting is now open until 13 October 2020, 12pm GMT. We will impartially encourage our online community to vote; each finalist is also encouraged to reach out to their colleagues and contacts.
