Mark Green is the Chief Investment Officer of Cottonwood Group, a real estate investment management firm focused on structured debt, equity, and special situations investments. At Cottonwood, Mark oversees the firm’s investment strategies, acquisitions, and joint ventures, driving growth while delivering exceptional performance for clients. He also serves as a member of the Investment Committee, playing a key role in shaping the firm’s vision and strategic direction.
Prior to joining Cottonwood, Mark co-founded Chatham Road Capital, where he served as Managing Partner and Chief Investment Officer. In this role, Mark guided the firm’s multi-strategy approach, leveraging market dislocations and inefficiencies across public and private real estate markets. He was responsible for all aspects of the firm’s investment activities, portfolio and risk management, and business development initiatives.
Previously, Mark served as Managing Director at Leucadia National Corporation, where he managed real estate principal and special situation investments. He also launched a long/short real estate securities fund, targeting opportunities in REITs, real estate operating companies, and companies with real estate and infrastructure assets. Additionally, Mark helped establish Jefferies' CRE debt platform and played an integral role in the formation of Jefferies LoanCore, a commercial real estate finance company active in the U.S. and U.K. markets.
Earlier in his career, Mark was a founding member of the U.S. real estate finance group at UBS, where he oversaw approximately $10 billion in debt and equity investments as an executive on the group’s Investment Committee. He also held senior roles at Eurohypo AG and CIBC World Markets and began his financial career at The Blackstone Group and Ernst & Young, where he worked as a CPA and senior auditor specializing in financial services.
Mark holds an MBA from Columbia Business School and a BS degree, graduating cum laude, from Skidmore College. He serves on the Investment Committee for Skidmore College’s endowment fund and is a founding member of Columbia Business School’s Real Estate Circle. Mark has shared his expertise as a guest speaker at Columbia University, New York University, and the Urban Land Institute.
